Or, kayak the secluded estuaries for a close-up view of pelican, egret and ibis nesting areas.Around our beautiful island you will find hundred pound Tarpon, Redfish schooling in huge numbers, Snook hanging out in our Mangroves, Cobia, Tripletail, and Sharks. Shopping

Matlacha consists of colorful homes, bars, art gallery’s, a post office, restaurant’s, a pet grooming service, gift shops, a marina, bait shops, a convenience store, a gym and lodging places — all clustered together. Some buildings are big, others are cottages, and a few are trailers. Once a month, during the winter months, Matlacha has “Friday Night Out” where all the art galleries are open, offering refreshments and art shows. Shrimp boats, other commercial vessels, yachts, rowboats, canoes and kayaks and flats skiffs dot the waterways.

The Island centre also has a Gas station.

There is a Pottery Shop in St.JamesCity and a few ArtGalleries scattered around the Island including  Bokeelia.
